CHILD CARE FOOD PROGRAM
The Child Care Food Program
The Child Care Food Program provides meal reimbursements to enrolled licensed family child care providers who are providing nutritious, well-balanced meals to the children in their care. Programs are operated in Hernando, Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco Counties. Family Resources has supported child care providers in our area for several years and continues to look for more opportunities to keep young kids healthy. Why Participate in the Child Care Food Program?
Well-nourished children are healthier, more attentive, and perform better mentally. Through the Child Care Food Program, kids learn healthy eating best practices that they can use throughout their lives. This ensures healthy growth and reduces obesity risk while introducing kids to foods they otherwise wouldn’t try. Kids who participate in the Child Care Food Program have healthier meals than kids who bring food from home, which means they can develop a love of healthy eating at an early age. This program lays the foundation for a healthy lifestyle that stays with kids long after kids leave daycare. The CCFP also provides meals for kids who otherwise wouldn’t have them, allowing kids to develop physically and mentally at an early age.Learn More About The Child Care Food Program
The CCFP was developed with the help of the Florida Department of Health. Visit their website to see if your child care facility qualifies for reimbursement and learn about the health guidelines required to participate in this program. The Florida Department of Health provides toolkits and rules for what constitutes a healthy meal for kids, how child care providers can keep records of what they serve and when, and which kids qualify for these meals. Their website has dedicated fact sheets and even sample menus of what to serve. The CCFP also has two related programs, the Afterschool Meals Program and the Homeless Children Nutrition Program to help kids in our area find healthy meal options when they otherwise would have none.Child Care Provider Forms
